The name originates in honour of Niels Bohr the Danish
physicist. Niels Bohr was famous for his work in atomic structure

Peter Armbruster and Gottfried Munzenberg at Darmstadt,
Germany
in 1981. It was synthesized in 1976 by a Soviet team led by Y.
Oganessian at the Institute for Nuclear Research at Dubna in
Russia.
